Frequently Asked Questions

Can we organise engineering for block retaining walls?

Yes, we can!

Block Retaining Walls that exceed 1 meter in height or are within 1.5 meters of another structure require engineering. Our Engineering team can assist with structural designs and provide Form 15 certification for your retaining wall. Typically, we arrange retaining wall engineering first and then finalise the quote based on the design. If you’re unsure about your requirements, feel free to contact us.

Block fences offer a number of compelling reasons to choose them over other fencing options:

  1. Durability: Block fences are incredibly strong and durable, requiring little to no maintenance due to their reinforced concrete footings and resilient block materials.
  2. Variety of Textures and Finishes: Homeowners can personalize their outdoor spaces with a wide range of block types and textures. You can even incorporate cut-outs, aluminium or glass infill panels, and decorative breeze blocks.
  3. Gates and Lighting: Integrating aluminium gates and lighting enhances both security and curb appeal.
  4. Longevity: Block fences are built to last for decades, staying structurally sound without warping or being affected by insects. They can also withstand physical impacts and weather conditions with ease.
  5. Noise Reduction: Block fences also reduce noise, making them ideal for creating quieter outdoor spaces in busy neighbourhoods.
  6. Added Property Value: Beyond enhancing security and privacy, a well-constructed block fence also increases property value by improving curb appeal and creating functional outdoor areas. It’s a valuable investment for homeowners looking to enhance their property’s resale potential.

Determining the right structure depends on factors like the slope of your property, soil type, and intended use of the area. By consulting with our professionals we can help assess these factors and recommend the most suitable structure, whether it’s a retaining wall, fence, or other landscaping feature.

Yes, permits are needed when building retaining walls in Sunshine Coast that are more than 1 metre above the ground. Additionally, if the wall will be close to another structure or if it forms part of a fence for a pool, a permit is required.

If you are unsure, it’s essential to check with your local building authority or municipality to ensure compliance with regulations before beginning construction.

How can I tell if I need a retaining wall?

You may need a retaining wall if your property has sloped areas where soil erosion is a concern, or if you want to create level terraces or prevent water runoff. Signs such as soil movement, standing water, or difficulty maintaining your landscaping may indicate the need for a retaining wall.

At HCB, our structures require little cleaning or maintenance.

Utilising the highest quality materials, our structures are built to last. Strong and durable, they can withstand the elements and ensure long-lasting stability and reliability for your outdoor spaces.

A number of factors will determine how tall your structure can be. These include local limits, soil conditions, drainage requirements, and the specific engineering requirements of your project. That’s why we work with you to understand your needs to develop a customised solution that meets both regulatory requirements and your specific project goals.
